Day 39 - Sleep Play Cry Eat Sleep Play Cry Eat..
Puppies are now 5.5 weeks old (oh how time flies) and so full of personalities. Their weight and size are equivalent to an adult pomeranian at this age.. perfect to fit into a handbag! Their daily routine involves lots of sleeping and playing with litter mates and when outside in the garden, it is crying, playing and eating my flowers (my beautiful little kisses flowers are flowerless and trying to hold on to its life) and of course puppy food!
The pups are also becoming much use to releasing on the grass, well they haven't got much of a choice (raining, sunny, drizzling or windy) because I would carry and place them on the grass. Their small bladder and inability to hold for a long time actually works in my favour because as soon as I carry and place them on the grass, they will release almost immediately. The only time this doesn't work if the pup have obviously peed in its whelping box beforehand or got distracted, i.e. Lily = breast milk.
Raising these energetic puppies at this age has been taking a lot more of my time, although it is surprisingly therapeutic. The fact that Lily has almost completely passed the responsibility to me, except breast feeding (of course!) means that I must be more switched on to diligently clean after them. This is when toilet training actually helps reduce the cleaning burden. The whelping box gets a thorough clean once a day which involves completely mopping the area - definitely helps with the 'After-milk' smell. I also feel that taking them outside a few times a day not only means less layering of newspapers, it also gives them a breather and chance to stretch, run around, smell and spend time with mum (more like get told off for desperately chasing her for milk).

Chewing grass? Glad it's not flowers |
As for personalities, the smallest boy is the crybaby and feels like nobody wants to play with him!! But I don't fall for it and attend to him 'because "awwww" he is crying' (by now - screaming) and give him a warm cuddle. As if!! I'd pick him up and place him with the pack. At most times, he moves away and starts moping again but sometimes, he stops crying and joins in the play. For now, I will call him BOLT, hoping his name would reverse the effect and make him a brave tough boy!

lil BOLT being a cry baby |
The other three including the girl are very playful and curious busy bees. I can't wait to spend more time and get to know their personalities better. They seem so alike. I know one of the boy and girl have BIG appetites. In fact the girl is one of the chubbier and heavier one. The other boy.. well I think a few days ago, he was trying to poo and then decided to sit AND rub his bum on the concrete ground. So he had a big and flat 'dag' on his bottom. That was not a good sight and a terrible cleaning experience for me.. =_="

PS: The pictures were taken 5 days ago, so they are a tiny bit bigger now.
Until next time!
